Taylor's at it again! The first of a new multi-episode series, she takes us through a deep dive of the mysterious, destructive Gods of Fury, who they are, the few things they actually do, and how they could be even cooler.

SPEAKER_02The illness has been defeated.
SPEAKER_04Yes. I uh I did not feel great last week. I went to bed having a really bad feeling about the morning. And I was like, it's probably nothing. I'm probably just overthinking it because it's you know my day to present. And then I woke up and I wanted to die.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That pre-sick, unfortunately for you, is not allowed.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that pre-sake feeling.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And so I uh I had this like overwhelming sense of dread, but I'm feeling a lot better now. I'm still catching up on everything. I'm almost done editing Werewolves episode. Uh oops.
SPEAKER_02Hey, it's alright.
SPEAKER_04Um, but I I had to sleep so much. There was so I I just had to sleep.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like sometimes you get it. Yeah, when you're sick, you gotta sleep.
SPEAKER_02Especially uh that's the that's the annoying thing about like uh it really hits you when you're like I don't know 30 or something. Yeah. To to to where like sometimes when you're sick or you're like recovering from surgery, for example, I don't know. The things that would relate to us. Things that happen. Like you know, sometimes you really do just hit a brick wall where it's like even though you feel like you feel bad or you feel like unproductive, or you feel like, oh no, maybe I could like you just hit a wall where you realize that there's literally nothing you can do except just sit there, just lay there and just wait, just wait for your body to figure it out, you know.
SPEAKER_04Literally, I hit a point where I like I was sleeping, basically just sleeping. And I I I I would wake up and I like my my wonderful husband was like, take it easy, do what you can. I I edited like our mini sode that went out on our Patreon. He was like, Okay, good job.
SPEAKER_02Go take a stop, and that's yeah, all right, great job.
SPEAKER_04Uh like get me to like if you're gonna do anything, just like do some low-stakes sketching, and then you know how I am. I'm just like, okay, does full character art.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, low stakes sketching turned into full ass character art. Hey, sometimes it'd be that way, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And then just like reading through my notes again, and then like comparing stuff and and and reading through like just the Forgotten Realms Wikipedia for fun because I can't do anything, and I'm also I also have insomnia at at a certain point. And I'm like, I think two days ago, I was like, I have an idea. I'm gonna go back and add some stuff to my notes.
SPEAKER_02I mean, that's not the that's not the highest stakes thing you could be doing. No, but it just goes to show I mean until until now. I mean, unless you're me and it's like and it's like day of and you feel you're really behind.
SPEAKER_01You're like I don't think you understand the scope of Taylor's notes for this.
SPEAKER_02I mean I can see the I can see the the chapters and the oh that's a oh okay, never mind. I just called that and saw the number of pages. Okay.
SPEAKER_04In fairness, not like a lot of that is because of the fact that I I do have like information and charts and stuff like that taken and right. Like not all of that is all gonna be read out, and I also did weird spacing for the first time. I I did a I did something weird with my notes. This whole thing is weird.
SPEAKER_02I feel like we say that a lot.
SPEAKER_04Especially since we came back. It's like we're it's like we're in our experimental era.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, definitely, yeah. Cause because I I did also make the decision to organize my notes for like the lycanthropy episode in a very different way than I previously did, and it also kind of changed my entire research process, which made it kind of different. But you know, I mean it's like, hey, you know, we're sometimes just got you just gotta try shit, you know?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, pretty much. Interestingly, um, there's not even gonna be like a really good transition, uh like cheesy transition into this because to be perfectly honest, everything we talked about kind of ties in to what we're talking about today. Like a head and uh things being complicated, and it's so the whole the whole opener was it was the transition. The whole opener was the transition, yes.
SPEAKER_01So you know, like a metallica song.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. This this is truly the Metallica song of my Metallica song of DD Podcast. Yes. That is probably the most arrogant, like sounding thing I've ever said.
SPEAKER_02But also the most like what does that even mean?
SPEAKER_04What does that even mean? What do you even mean by that?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I don't know, but it sounds cool.
SPEAKER_04It sounds cool, and I'll take it. So today we are going to be discussing the gods of fury. Oh because I mentioned in your last episode that it had been on like my like shortlist for a while, and yeah, I think it that they're really cool conceptually.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I mentioned one of them like briefly.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we're gonna talk to about him a lot today, but not as much as we will in the future. Okay, um, this is gonna be a five-parter. Yeah, that's okay.
SPEAKER_02That's okay. That's a lot of parts.
SPEAKER_04So let me let me get started. Um The Gods of Fury are basically this collective of chaotic and destructive deities led by Yeah and Fury.
SPEAKER_02The Fury part.
SPEAKER_04Uh led by Talos the Destroyer, as they brought destruction through the more disastrous and dark aspects of nature.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_04The gods of fury were Talos, RL, Malar, and Emberly.
SPEAKER_02You talked about Malar on your last one. Yeah, yeah. That like some werewolves worship him as a sort of uh I the vibe I got was that he was kind of like a a little bit of a hearseine-like figure, but that it also wasn't really clear if he made werewolves or not. Some of them were just kind of like, yeah, this guy's alright.
SPEAKER_04Yes. I will not be elucidating whether or not he made werewolves because basically what I found is that he's responsible for some werewolves.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. But and where creatures?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it yeah. Oh, well, yes, kind of it kind of it's a it's a thing. It's a thing. It's a it's a type of lycanthropy.
SPEAKER_02I see.
SPEAKER_04But that's not today's episode. That's not even next my that's not even my next episode. That's not even not even the episode after that. That's episode number four in this upcoming arc.
SPEAKER_02Right. So yeah, we'll be back in like like three months. Yeah. With this.
SPEAKER_04So the gods of fury are often positioned as being like at odds and sort of opposites with uh Shantea and the other good aligned nature deities. Right. And the gods of Fury, particularly Talos, really seem to relish in this constant fight.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_04You'd might think that with such a cool name and such cool members and enemies, the gods of fury did some really cool things, right?
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, no, that's correct. I'm gonna be bold and say no. They didn't?
SPEAKER_04Travis, you're wrong. There's almost no lore about the gods of fury as a group. Like nothing.
SPEAKER_01And what okay.
SPEAKER_02That that I don't know why that maybe, maybe it's because like maybe, maybe I kind of already I kind of already sort of spoiled that for myself whenever I looked up a little bit about um and you saw the really short Wikipedia entry? Uh yeah, when I looked up a little bit about um Malar. I keep wanting to say Talos, even though Talos is like the leader. He's not the he's not the the the one specifically mentioned in the like and throw research. But yeah, like I looked him up and I was like, oh, there's not a lot about this guy. This guy's kind of like um it seems to me like he's a little bit of like a um, oh what's the word? Like he's a little bit of just like a henchman kind of vibe.
SPEAKER_04But like I guess when you actually do a deep dive on him, he actually does have a lot of cool stuff going for him. But like that is absolutely the vibe that they try to drive home, is that he he is a little henchman, but then he has his own standout stuff where he's so cool.
SPEAKER_02But like they they they don't necessarily do a lot in the way of like they don't necessarily did nothing together.
SPEAKER_04Oh, so they're like that's so weird. It's like they started a band, but then all did their own really cool solo work and never released an album.
SPEAKER_02And they can technically say that they're in a band, but yeah, yeah, but they could never agree on like what kind of music they wanted to yeah, but all of their all of their solo work is like chart topping, but they literally never released an album.
SPEAKER_04They even had like a breakup at one point as the band, but and then got back together and never released an album. Anyways, it's like actually astonishingly heartbreaking for me because like the I'm gonna talk about a lot how much I love the the concept of the gods of fury. They all did really interesting things individually, and I find the idea of a coalition of destructive forces of nature to be such a phenomenal idea, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because it sounds fantastic in a lore sense, yeah, in a in like a real-world ramification sense, maybe not so much, but yeah, in a lore sense, conceptually it's funny.
SPEAKER_04Conceptually, it's very interesting. So, because of the fact that like I I had this on my short list for a while because of the fact that I couldn't really figure out how to make the these episodes work or what I thought was initially going to be unepisode. Oops. Oops, story of my fucking life.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_04But I did end up coming up with an idea that is a bit of a departure from the way we typically do things and the way I typically do things. Oh so I'll start with a few things that are discussed about the gods of fury as a group. There are a few things. A quick description on all four of the gods, so like your brief overview sort of thing, not the deep dive yet. And some interesting tidbits I found relating to them and their interactions with other groups. In this episode, I also planned to mention who I think would go well in the gods of fury to expand the group a little if we decided to go that route. And by we, I mean with just the coast.
SPEAKER_02Okay, yeah, no, okay. I I was very confused for a second because that was what how I initially interpreted that. But then also I was like, wait, do you mean like as a like other gods you could discuss in an episode to maybe flesh out some, and then it's like, nah, we're just trying to find them a fifth band member.
SPEAKER_04Basically, yeah, may maybe adding some other members will help like unify the band.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because you know, there's always gotta be the it sounds to me my read right now is that they need like a like a personality hire.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like the the one person.
SPEAKER_04They definitely need a personality hire, you'll see.
SPEAKER_02Like the one person. Well, given that one of them um is is a guy with like two forms, one of which is called like the beast or something, probably not the the people person, probably not the like the the friendship glue of the group. So yeah, yeah, no.
SPEAKER_04Um you will see that nobody gets along with Malar, including the rest of the gods of fury. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02They're just like, yeah, we just hate this guy. Yeah. Why is this guy here? Well, while he's like in the corner, just like slobbering all over himself.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So in in the following episodes, I'll do a deep dive into the main four, the main four, the only four, uh, because they are too interesting to just to just sum up quickly.
SPEAKER_03The canonical four.
SPEAKER_04Like I said, I was planning on this being one episode, but here we are. And instead, it's gonna be like 20. No, it's gonna be five. Close enough.
SPEAKER_02Anyway.
SPEAKER_04I don't think so.
SPEAKER_02Um if we get to if we get to a point where we're doing like 20 parts, 2020 episode like series is that's too much. We've gone too far.
SPEAKER_04We'll see. Because of like the way I'm doing this is a little different. SPEAKER_04So, all right. With all of that out of the way, let's dive in.
SPEAKER_02Let's get furious.
SPEAKER_04Okay, well, thank you for naming the episode.
SPEAKER_01Yep, there's the episode title. Five gods, five furious.
SPEAKER_04Well, that that'll be when we add a personality higher.
SPEAKER_02Um yeah. I don't know why I keep thinking I keep thinking there's okay, no, I can't, I can't get into this.
SPEAKER_04Okay, the first mention of the gods of fury that I could find is from a 1981 Dragon Magazine article. In issue number 54. Ed Greenwood has an article titled Down to Earth Divinity outlining how to create a functional pantheon of deities in your campaign. Ed also gives his own preferred pantheon, which, by the way, sets the framework for what would eventually become the Feyrunian Pantheon. Like, this is the first instance I can find of all four of these gods, and also like a lot of the Faeunian Pantheon. This is their first mention. Whoa, dude, why is Dragon?
SPEAKER_02That's so crazy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. As an aside, did you know that Ed Greenwood has a Patreon where he releases uh tidbits of like Forgotten Realms lore?
SPEAKER_01Whoa. Yeah, like I knew that he makes YouTube videos because I've seen uh I've seen them every once in a while pop up on like recommended things, but I didn't know he had a Patreon.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I'm like honestly, like maybe I should maybe I should subscribe to his Patreon so that I can get some of these lore tidbits.
SPEAKER_01Um regardless.
SPEAKER_04In this first iteration, Talos has summed up very quickly and concisely a storm god commanding powers of rain, gale, lightning, and earthquake. Evidently, Greenwood felt like that there were a lot of similar deities in the real world inspirations he took, and that they were too powerful. So he combined the features he liked into a deity that he wanted.
SPEAKER_02Very nice. Yeah, so like a a bit of a um a bit of a Zeus, a bit of an Odin, yeah, Thor. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Alright, I like it.
SPEAKER_02But also kind of like, you know, a little bit of like how kind of like how like Poseidon is like, you know, everyone thinks of him as like the ocean guy, but then he's also like the god of earthquakes, yeah. So like horses, you know. Yeah. So and then it's like it's like if you think about it, it kind of makes sense, but also a lot of people kind of are just like, oh yeah, it's the ocean guy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But you know, it makes sense to tie other kinds of weather with the with the lightning and stuff.
SPEAKER_04It eventually I think Ed kind of hones in on exactly what he wants talos to be.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_04Um, oral is only described as being connected to Talos and then detailing some of the basics, like she's frosty, she likes the cold, she has eye spells, that kind of thing.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I mean, she's frosty. She should stay frosty. She's I mean, you know, it's it is rudimentary.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. In a sense, Malar actually has a lot of like a bit more information on him initially. I think that he had he like he already knew what he wanted out of Malar.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he like had a clear vision.
SPEAKER_04A lot of it has been tossed out over the years, though. At introduction, Malar is related to Sylvanus, the nature god, um, but he is also a servant of Baal. And well, I'll just read the description. Malar is said to be black, covered with wet, dripping blood and like black fur.
SPEAKER_02I I think he literally means like black in color, like yeah.
SPEAKER_04Oh, like not black in heart. Black in heart and black in blood is something that we will be discussing in the Malar episode.
SPEAKER_02In like however long. In like two months. Um you're setting the your um No, I'm I'm ready to go.
SPEAKER_04My all my episodes are gonna be one well, not one right after the other. All of my next episodes that I will be doing are gonna be over this. So he's covered with wet, dripping blood and has fangs and clawed forelimbs of a great cat, which is why I went back and specifically mentioned probably fur.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04He is actually mentioned as being furred later on. Uh, hunters, both for game and in sport, make offerings to him before setting forth in the chase, and he is said to manifest himself in berserkers, enraged beasts, and in that type of frenzied human hunter that men deem mad. Ball is overlord to those who view killing as an art to be coldly perfected. Malar is the patron of those who exult in in it endlessly, sensuously.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So he's senseless. Senseless but sensual.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I see.
SPEAKER_04And then um a lot of that does end up getting tossed.
SPEAKER_02So it is kind of the well, I guess I won't I won't outline the specifics because I guess it's kind of Baldur's Gate 3 spoilers, but it is kind of the you know, you have the the exacting quantity kind of thing, and then you have the like the the like licking the licking the blood off the knife type. Yeah, you know. Also, I don't think they would be licking the blood off like a knife, it would be more like just off the off the claws, off the hands, you know.
SPEAKER_04Umberly also doesn't have that much in her early description, but Ed does focus a bit more on the mechanics of how she works, which it's first edition. I'm not gonna bother reading it.
SPEAKER_02Um probably like two sentences.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. She is established as the goddess that ships at sea must reckon with, manipulator of currents and waves, engulfing swimmers and shipwrecked sailors. There's also the setup for her rivalry with Saluna, which is diminished to the point of vanishing in recent iterations.
SPEAKER_02Okay. She just says she says beef with Saluna.
SPEAKER_04Which makes sense, like when you consider their portfolios.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and like ocean, like else. Yeah. There's there's kind of yeah.
SPEAKER_04I think it got too conceptual, so they kind of tossed it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Right.
SPEAKER_04Now for the part about the gods of fury. Talos is served by Orl, Umberly, and Malar. All four are known collectively as the gods of fury. Shantea and Lithander work together and often do so in alliance with Sylvanas and his gods against the gods of fury. To be fair, the descriptions on everything need to be short and concise to fit into a magazine article, but unfortunately it just doesn't get much more in depth on them as a collective. So that just sort of sets a stage.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and it like, yeah.
SPEAKER_04So now on to the actual gods.
SPEAKER_02The meat of the meat of the gang.
SPEAKER_04Yes. So the leader, as I mentioned, is Talos. So he's chaotic evil, he's known as the Destroyer, the Raging One, the Stormstar, and the Storm Lord. He has portfolios over storms, destruction, rebellion, earthshakings, and vortices. Basically, at a certain point, he really does just kind of become the god of natural disasters and destruction.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_04As a fifth edition, his domain is like in the tempest domain, but obviously throughout he's had chaos, destruction, evil, storm when there were a million domains.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, right. Yeah, but uh they just said, Alright, here, Tempest.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. He is also known as Koza in the ancient Netherell pantheon. So he was worshipped in Netherell.
unknownHuh.
SPEAKER_02Good. Only good stuff going on there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, lots of good stuff. We will talk about Netherell. And among the Bedin, which is like a um like a desert dwelling tribe that like destins. Descended from some Netheries people, basically. So they kept the name Koza alive and have their own unique myths about like the gods in general. But specifically about Talos. Um he's named Belrose and Kalamsham Kellisham?
SPEAKER_01Kalamsham.
SPEAKER_04Kalamsham. I think I missed an M.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that word is that word is very it's very difficult sometimes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Regardless of that. Words are hard.
SPEAKER_04He's known as Malik in the Underdark, as the god of wild magic. And that actually has a whole story to it that we will discuss.
SPEAKER_02Lots of different he's got his he's got his um he's got his fingers in a lot of different pies.
SPEAKER_04That is a trend with Talos.
SPEAKER_01Calamshan. So I think you are missing a uh Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's fine. So he makes his home in Pandemonium in basically the Towers of Ruin, also known as the Screaming Towers. Oh good yeah. So his main al allies, he doesn't have that many, and most of them are in his little god coalition. Um, and one of them is dead.
SPEAKER_02Oh. Oh, good. I mean, that doesn't really that doesn't always mean that much in DD, you know.
SPEAKER_04In this case, I I believe it's dead as in forgotten and no longer worshipped.
SPEAKER_02Oh dead, dead. Okay, so so really at that point, are they even still friends? I guess. Yeah, probably not. Probably not, technically. I think it's hard to maintain a friendship with someone who um is literally dead, so they can't really contact you. You know, y'all can't hang out.
SPEAKER_04And then his faux list is quite extensive.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it is. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_04It's literally, I think, three times as long. Getting into that today. So his symbol is three lightning bolts radiating from a point.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_04It looks very cool. It's very simple. So Talus is a violent, short-tempered, and angry deity who exults in chaos and rebels in destruction. Often petty and vengeful, the stormlord is a powerful bully and is often motivated by rage and the desire to never appear weak or compromising in any way to his followers.
SPEAKER_01Wow. So he is just like the school bully. Bully. He's so insecure that he has to constantly prove that he is not weak.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Does he have like a bunch of illegitimate children from like a bunch of affairs? Because he's starting to say he sounds very Zeus in that way, I think.
SPEAKER_04From what I was reading, he actually has zero.
SPEAKER_02Wow. He's just he's he's he's not even, he's like so in it for the love of the game. Yeah, he's like, he's locked in. He's like, you know.
SPEAKER_04His number one his number one like lover is destruction.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he just yeah. I mean, you know, man. He loves chaos. Um just like ignore females, so chaos.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Although Talos is a popular deity, he his name is invoked more out of fear than out of reverence.
SPEAKER_02Yep. That probably works for him.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. He does have priests, which are mostly traveling doomsayers who warded disasters to come and accept charity in exchange for blessings of protection.
SPEAKER_02Oh good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So basically, the guy running around with the the end is nigh.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04That's that those are his people.
SPEAKER_01The end is nigh. Give me money and I shall protect you.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Many of his faithful wear a black eye patch, even if both eyes are intact. This is because Talos only has one eye. Well, or one good eye.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I was about to say And none of his followers can be better than him.
SPEAKER_04No, they're trying to be as good as him. Having two eyes is a flaw.
SPEAKER_02Oh, right. And also, but also means that perception. But also, like eye patches are so bitching, though. Like, they're so cool. Like, they do look really cool.
SPEAKER_04Alright. So next up is Arl. She is neutral evil, known as the Frost Maiden, Ice Dawn, the Cold Goddess, and Lady Frostkiss.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so I actually love all of those names. And I was gonna say Ice Dawn is my favorite, but then looking at like the last two, I'm like, shit, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02They're all really cool. I I liked I like the idea of like you have like Ice Dawn, like as in like ice, and then like you know, the time of the morning. Yeah. And then it's like a homonym for like you have been iced on. Yeah, I kinda like that. I don't know what this I don't know what what the setup for for a joke like that would be, but like that's like a catchphrase. You've been iced on.
SPEAKER_01You've been iced on.
SPEAKER_04Um she has portfolios in cold and winter uh tracks, her domains also cold and winter and air for a long time. And now as a fifth edition, just nature and tempest, which I do find it interesting that her she has domains in nature, but Talos does not. Just just an aside.
SPEAKER_02Um he's too locked in too locked in to the tempest to like to he's too committed to that part of it, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but I mean, being you know, the god of like natural disaster. Yeah, you would think that nature would be in there, but hey, it's he's more into the disaster part, yeah.
SPEAKER_04She's also known as Sakurik among the people of the Great Glacier. She had an archaic Great Glacier's gonna be talked about heavily in Oral's episode.
SPEAKER_02Ooh, okay.
SPEAKER_04Um her name was Alifair. Um, it's an archaic name, it's so it's like no longer used, but basically uh you might see her mentioned as Alifair uh in like very old like writings. Right. And then Orlander in fourth edition.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_04It's a thing. I will touch on it. I hate it.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_04Okay, I hate most of it.
SPEAKER_02See, I saw the name and I saw like the umlaut of the view, and I thought that they were they were kind of taking it in a very specific direction of like you know what I mean.
SPEAKER_04Like Yeah, they they do take things in a specific direction, and some of the things are cool, some of the things are really stupid.

SPEAKER_04Yeah. But of her allies, uh, like specifically within The Gods of Fury, she apparently only trusts Umberly to come to her aid. She does not trust Talos or Millar.
SPEAKER_02That that makes sense that she only she only trusts the other woman there. Like, I mean, yeah, okay. So especially especially given that Talos is obviously very like he's very um insecure. Yeah. He kind of feels the need to be constantly proving how cool and destructive he is. And then Malar is just like the murder hobo. That guy. Yeah. You know. On all levels except physical. I am a wolf. Except he's also a wolf. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So her symbol is a six-pointed white snowflake on a gray diamond. Okay, that that makes sense. Very cool. Cool. Yeah. Yeah. That's that's appropriate. That tracks. The Frostmaiden is the goddess of cold in winter, and is most powerful in the regions that are deeply affected by winter, and crouch at the edges of the Great Glacier.

SPEAKER_04She is worshipped out of fear, serves Talos, and much of her ethos is similar to the god of nature's destruction.

She's the strongest in the lands of the north, particularly those lands which border the Great Glacier, as well as the Great Glacier itself. She is much less powerful elsewhere, and to no one's great surprise, practically unknown to the south.

The Lord of Beasts despises the balance sought by druids and their deities and seeks to overthrow overthrow it through actions of his faithful. He manifests an avatar in Favorune in an endless hunt across the realms whenever the mood strikes him, which is almost constantly. Motherfucker is never home.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was gonna say, so he is literally never home. He's always out and about, stalking. Uh stalking.
SPEAKER_04Church of Malar, as you won't be surprised to find out, has basically no real organization. Right. It's built around the concept of the hunt. They do have like groups devoted to like following him more specifically and spreading his will through t terrorizing specific civilized area. Um Malar also has um an interesting following among pirates. Um his tenants of the hunt are basically the credo of many pirates.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Sure. Yeah. I can kind of see that. I mean, pirates are just I mean, I get it. Like all they do is just basically plunder, pillage, plunder, loot, continue.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So I I would think they would want to spend more of their time trying to cozy up with Umberly since they gotta they gotta be out on the sea. But I guess getting in with the the group's like mask like dog mascot might not hurt.

SPEAKER_02That's what I think Malar is. He's just their mascot.
SPEAKER_04Basically. Actually, as a preview, Malar, do you you know the famous story of the dead three and the game of knuckle bones? Malar is actually there. Oh, oh, okay. But yeah, uh as you'll note, he didn't get anything.

So she's only known as the dweller when referring to that aspect. And then Re Diabrella by the Shalorin, which is probably just Umberly in their language.

SPEAKER_04Yeah. The the Shaloren actually do have a very pretty language. Uh, and the supplement that this is interested in or that this is referenced from, it has a um list of like Shaleran words.

Uh, ship crews offer her gems, tossed over the side to calm the storm-tossed waters. As her nickname suggests, she is capricious and ill-tempered.

SPEAKER_04Uh Emberly is just plain mean, straight up. She's malicious. She breaks agreements on a whim when she feels she has not gotten the best part of the deal and takes pleasure in both watching her sharks tear shipwrecked victims to shreds and watching others die slowly of drowning.
SPEAKER_01So you could say that she's a bitch.
SPEAKER_04You could. In fact, many do. Many people are saying this. She is also vain and expects to be flattered. And you better if you're going to go out on her waters. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Apparently.
SPEAKER_04The seafaring Northmen give great respect and fear to Umberly. The ocean gladly access their customary sacrifices before each journey. Um I mean, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So is this sacrifices as in like human sacrifices? Depends, but yes.
SPEAKER_04Um, like not everyone part. Yes. It depends on who it is, who what it is.
SPEAKER_02Where they're going, what they've got. Yeah, pretty much. You know, they're like, oh dang, we we we left all the we left all the gemstones, but we got this little we got This little cabin boy, get out there. Yep.
SPEAKER_04The longer the journey, the greater the sacrifice. So cabin boy might work for a short journey, but you're gonna have to come up with someone higher up the chain.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you're gonna need someone a little bit taller.
SPEAKER_01Okay, see, I was thinking like the longer the journey, the smaller the person. So like a child would be like working the sacrifice.
SPEAKER_02Oh, you know what? She might think that that's kind of tasty.
SPEAKER_04You know, she's messed up, but I also think that like she would probably prefer somebody to be who is more integral to the ship. Like so uh obviously I'm not suggesting that you toss overboard your captain. However, if your captain forgets to give an offering to Umberly and she starts to toss some furious waves at you, you might just decide that the best way to get to Umberly is to go straight to the top and toss him overboard.

SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was gonna say that's a I mean, that's a good reason for mutiny too. Like, yeah, hey, lads, he didn't sacrifice any of them. Now we're all gonna die.

SPEAKER_04So Umberly does have a large number of shrines, especially on coastal cities, and sailors often leave flowers or small candy candies, but I think that might have supposed might have been candle, like I can't either way, candies or candles.

SPEAKER_04Uh, just in hopes that Umberly will spare them on their next voyage. Umberly's faithful have long dominated the minds and hearts of Surface World sailors, and many believe her to be the primary power of the sea, which in and of itself is sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

SPEAKER_04They're all quite interesting and for the most part complimentary. In fact, I actually feel like Millar is sort of the odd one out in this bunch.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because you have like, you have like because Talos is like the, you know, the like I know earthquakes are in there too in his portfolio, but he's kind of like the sky guy, yeah. Like he's got he's got the thunderstorms and the turr the torrential rain and shit. And then you've got the the the ice, you know, you got the the the blizzards and the glaciers, and then you've got the ocean, and then you've got the furry.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know, those are the four those are the four those are the four um elements, guys. The four elements ice, water, thunder, and fur furry.
SPEAKER_01And furry, yes.
SPEAKER_04So there are mentions of fighting between the gods of fury and Chantea or Sylvanas, but nothing ever concrete, which is deeply frustrating to me. Uh that being said, there are some concrete mentions of places where they're all either all of them or multiple of them are present. So some of the words that I will be saying are very outdated and uncomfortable for me. No slurs, good. Not that I would say one, but like I wanted to preempt.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but just maybe a little bit like okay, you can tell when this was written.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Um, what I will say is that maybe a lot of the upcoming stuff that I'm reading is from the 1990s, and so for its time is actually surprisingly not that bad.

SPEAKER_04Um I what I will actually say is that later on there is a um, which I will not fully be referencing the supplement um in this one. There is a supplement on the Great Glacier, and the people of the Great Glacier are very Inuit inspired.

SPEAKER_02Which is I have been to a museum in the 2010s that had for the for the 90s, that's pretty I don't know if that particular if that particular supplement came out in the 90s.
SPEAKER_04It was either the 80s or the 90s. That's pretty good. Okay. Actually, I want to say that that the the Inuit-based supplement is from the 80s.

SPEAKER_04Um, so the Savage Frontier.

SPEAKER_04Um, as one might assume from a place called the Savage Frontier, the gods of fury made themselves quite at home in Northwest Vivrun. Various human groups of barbarians roamed. A notable one is the Iluscans or Northmen, and they had ancestry from refugees of the fall of Netherell.
SPEAKER_02Where good things were happening.
SPEAKER_04Where fantastic things happen. Which is why people left.
SPEAKER_02Which is why people left, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um the most notable groups were called the Uthgar. The Uthgarte, basically, are the is the group. Uthgar is the man.

SPEAKER_04They're pronounced very similarly because the you don't go too hard on the DT.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. You can barely hear it, which is why I had to But yeah, so there's there's Uthgar, the guy, and then the Uthgart.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Uh that's probably the only time I will heavily over-enunciate it. Um Uthgar is the legendary founder of the Uthgart barbarians. He is said in some of their legends to be the son of Tempest, though this is apocryphal legend. A proud, strong warrior who founded the Uthgar tribes. Usgart is reputed to have lived three times a normal human life and then ascended to watch over the Uthgart for all eternity after taking a fatal wound in a one-on-one battle with a frost giant named Gert.

SPEAKER_01I mean, to be killed by a frost giant named Gert. Sure. I mean, I would have at least like on my dying breath been like, please change the name in the story. Can you just make his name something else?

SPEAKER_04So the Uthgar barbarian tribes each worship one of the beasts whose powers were taken by Uthgar in his life. So it is referred to as a totem cult. Good. Yeah. Good. Okay.

SPEAKER_04Yeah. Yeah. Encompasses the worship of the tribe's ancestors, including Uthgar and his sons, as well as any of their long-dead chieftains and shamans. So the spirits are as follows: black lion, black raven, blue bear, elk, golden eagle, gray wolf, great worm, griffin, red pony, red tiger, also known as snow cat, depending on the addition.

SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was gonna say one of those things very familiar here.
SPEAKER_02Blue bear. One of these things, I guess it is like the others, because it is an adjective and then an animal name.
SPEAKER_04But I think tree ghost is the only one that's that that is the odd one out there. Well, and elk. Oh, and elk, yeah. Just elk.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there's elk elk. And then there's just like the the Oh and Griffin.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and Griffin, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I yeah, actually, some of these are some of these are different.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, but well, the bluebear tribe, as you will note, uh, they had a hell of a time, okay?
SPEAKER_02Oh no.
SPEAKER_04They were deceived at one point by an honest hag, uh, whose shape changed to appear as their totem's avatar.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god. Oh no.
SPEAKER_04And then they were corrupted by her influence, and after which their grandfather tree, which which is sort of like very important to their home, banished them. Like the guardian spirits of the tree banished them because of the fact that they had been corrupted.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_04At this point, the tribe splintered, and a new tribe, the tree ghost, was created. The tree ghost goes on to um look for their original ancestral grandfather tree from where they first lived because if they ever have to move, they will take a portion of their grandfather tree and replant it wherever they move to. So the tree ghost went looking for the ghost of their original tree.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Right.
SPEAKER_04The remaining blue hair tribe, however, eventually made the covert hag into their new leader.
SPEAKER_02Um my god. Did they know? No. Did they know that okay? They still didn't know she was a hag. Okay. They had no idea.
SPEAKER_04The tribe's totem grew weak because they stopped worshiping the correct the actual guy, like the actual totem. And he was easily killed by Malar, who then subsumed his worship, and that led to the near extinction of the bluebear tribe.
SPEAKER_02Oh no.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I can line. I like how I immediately clocked the the bluebear thing, but then like Malar kind of didn't show up until like the end of the day. Like they were just having a bad enough time anyway.
SPEAKER_04And then also there's demons or demons or devils, I can't remember which at some point. It's a whole thing.
SPEAKER_02They're just having a bad time. They're really having a time.
SPEAKER_04So, in addition to that, the elk tribe just elk. Just elk. They they did have a rough go of it for a little while. They primarily venerated the elk totem. What I will say is that they didn't have that rough of a time, and like this is not as bad. So they primarily venerated the elk totem, but they also began to worship the gods of fury, primarily oral. Keep in mind, these people are living super high up north up north.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um, they actually had two shaman, one who led worship in the elk totem, and the other one who led worship in our big four, but mostly oral.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because you know, you gotta you gotta do that when you live in like, you know, the the deep the the the blizzard or north. Yeah, the blizzard.
SPEAKER_04Over time, through poor leadership of the tribe and efforts of the god of fury's clerics, it led Oral to turn the majority of the tribe away from the elk for a period of time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, I'm not terribly surprised.
SPEAKER_04In recent years, the elk's totem has returned to be the main focus of worship of the elk tribe. Um, but it is significantly more balanced.
SPEAKER_02That's very nice of the that's very nice of the elk to kind of like, you know, come kind of chill.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like we we can share, we can share out of each other. And then and then when the the trump but I think that's the difference between oral and malar most of the time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like oral's kind of like, okay, yeah, whatever. Uh and then but then Malar is like, no, and then eats and then eats the fucking blue bear.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So that's it for the Savage Frontier. That is actually the name of the region, which is I couldn't get away with changing.

SPEAKER_04The Kingdom of Tether uh was a nation in the lands of intrigue in Western Feyrune. This is also the place of a potentially uh very coordinated set of events by the gods of fury. Coordinated, coordinated.
SPEAKER_02It doesn't seem like they they'd do much coordinated. No.
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_02No offense. No, it does not.
SPEAKER_04In 1347 DR, as the name suggests, uh there were ten days in which Tetherians had a really bad day uh for ten days. They rioted throughout the realm, assaulting the kingdom's nobles and their families. Ten days of siege, warfare, riots, and outright slaughter.
SPEAKER_02Damn. Just for fun?
SPEAKER_04No. Um Okay, okay. Yeah, so the events of the ten days shall forever remind nobles of the fate that awaits those who abuse their power and influence over others.
SPEAKER_02Did they lose like a did they lose like a football game? No. Okay. Like even like a World Cup.
SPEAKER_04I disagree with the way that some things are presented coming up.
SPEAKER_02Um good, okay.
SPEAKER_04So according to the few surviving nobles of that period, they were aware of some unrest among the people, but mostly from the border states in the forest of Tether. Among the Dukes and other nobles under Alamander IV, only two, the Duke of Dusk and Surrit March, were seen as utter tyrants, though others were harsh to their workers and vassals. While the unrest among the Highlanders seems justified, it hardly explains the vicious uprisings in the lowlands.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_04So basically, they were abusing their people.
SPEAKER_02Their vassals and things.
SPEAKER_04Oh, it was bad. Like that's just the that's like the tip of the iceberg. Like they were being utter tyrants.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04A lot of them anyway.
SPEAKER_02And um And then they're like, We have no idea.
SPEAKER_04Oh no, why have the why have the commoner revolted?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_01Like, oh no. Just way too familiar.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's that's that's too that's too true to life.
SPEAKER_04But despite a complete lack of awareness by the surviving nobles, they may have some points on it not being completely explainable through just their own through just through just being typical typical typical peasant uprising. Yeah. So in the first two days, the families of Queen Rinda, Princess Consort Dara, and King Alamander IV had been all been murdered after the aforementioned royals were burned to death in their own castle. After two days.
SPEAKER_01Two days. That was in the first two days.
SPEAKER_04The first day was the fire, and then they spent the rest of that day and the next day killing their whole family.
SPEAKER_02Okay, goddamn. You know what? They're efficient.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. By the end of the next two days, only two counts had managed to survive without fleeing, but their homes were under siege and both would be dead by the end of the black days.
SPEAKER_02That's they're very they got it done, man.
SPEAKER_04They got it done. By the sixth, the error, sorry, the sixth day was the most violent and saw most nobles flee the country. And twelve hunted families managed to flee into Aum, but the rest were slain.
SPEAKER_02Jesus.
SPEAKER_04Their manors and cattle ranches were looted and burned to the ground. Every surviving noble from the Murr Protectorate, which is just a region in Tether, was drowned in the gosh. The last four days saw the chaos begin to lose cohesion as the remaining nobles had dispersed far enough to be too difficult to catch, while the nobles who had not mistreated their people or were swept up in the slayings waited for the angry citizens to return to their lives. Of the 56 landed nobles and over a hundred lesser titled nobles, only two dukes, a count, and five barons survived.
SPEAKER_02They ran on it.
SPEAKER_04They may have been. Yeah, and sometimes it's you know Russian, um, I can't remember what it's called, but the Russian uh revolution where uh they hunted down the SARS.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and sometimes it's you know, in the case of like it sounds bad to say like collateral, but like, you know, it's like if you set a house on fire. Yeah. You know, sometimes you know, sometimes, but a lot of the time they don't necessarily go out of their way to like and they like specifically hunted them into other countries. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_04Um and also like a lot of very like drowning people in drowning very violent deaths, which I would imagine a lot of them probably would have preferred to bring them forward to be like like if this was exclusively just a about the an uprising, about the the mystery.
SPEAKER_02The tyranny, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh they probably would have wanted them to be publicly executed to answer for their crimes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just just put them. Put them in a guillotine normal style, you know.
SPEAKER_01But these were specifically.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna drown their whole family. It's like, Jesus Christ. Like, I feel like that's like uh, which I'm uh obviously I'm sure that there was some, I would imagine there was some some divine whipping up of hysteria and things like that. But I am also like imagining they're like at their little rebel underground meeting, and there's that one guy, that one probably Malar-esque guy who's like we should drown their whole families, and everyone else is like, Jerry, come, dude.
SPEAKER_04No, why is Jerry always the name that we come up with? By the way, I don't know. I was going back through some of our old videos, and we come up with Jerry a lot.
SPEAKER_02I feel like I don't know. I just imagine like Jerry, Jerry's just that guy.
SPEAKER_04Jerry is that guy. So, according to a number of diviners and priests after the fact, who actually spoke with um the exhumed parties uh uh the hysteria that gripped many folk during these times came from on high, though which gods were responsible is unclear. Some sources point to the Bainite clergies that were numerous around Tether at the time. Um, or a power play by either Merkel or Ball to upset Bain. Others still swore that it had to be Talos and his minions, particularly Malar. After all, the nobles were hunted down.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I mean, sure.
SPEAKER_04In fact, one story isolated to the village of Toral Toralf. I hate I hate Toralf the way that that feels in the mouth. They should have named it something else. Yes. Mentioned a black cloud with red eyes descending upon the village, which is known as the M Millar's Mark, uh, which turned villagers and local elves into ravaging hunters of the nobles.
SPEAKER_02Don't love the word choice there, but just you know, the local elves.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, as opposed to just the villagers. Yeah, elven villagers.
SPEAKER_04It did specifically out the elves as not being villagers. Well, maybe they did living out in the forest, maybe. That that's a fair point. I didn't consider that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like maybe they they specified like local elves because elves are not usually like that.
SPEAKER_04Maybe.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, you know what? What really what is it? What is an elf? We can't even say. We can't even say we can't. We can't.
SPEAKER_04Not we we need another episode.
SPEAKER_02Because we don't know what elves are.
SPEAKER_04Tether, while typically a religiously tolerant kingdom in Feyrune, certainly never welcomed worshippers of destruction ever again. But other cities and nations absolutely do. So you might be asking, why put up with evil?
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, I am actually kind of wondering about that, because why?
SPEAKER_04So vibes in October of 2020, 2012. 2021.

SPEAKER_04In October. We way in the future. Ed Greenwood is still there.
SPEAKER_02Ed Greenwood is Ed Greenwood is is posting this from the future.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Um, so in October 2012, Ed Greenwood, it was released. It was written by Ed Greenwood, and it's called Ed Greenwood Presents Elminster's Forgotten Realms.
SPEAKER_02I like beautiful.
SPEAKER_04I can just picture it being like one of those movies that is like a one-person movie where it's like written. It's directed by Ed Greenwood, produced by Ed Greenwood.
SPEAKER_02Uh lead writer, Ed Greenwood, starring Ed Greenwood. Yes. Lead gaffer, Ed Greenwood.
SPEAKER_04Yes. So he wrote this little I mean, he wrote the whole thing, obviously, but this is a little like mini chapter written on why worshippers of evil tend to be put up with. And it's really interesting. I want to read the whole thing, but I'm not going to because we're gonna run out of time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So basically, why do good-minded individuals tolerate evil clergy and their deeds and practices? Because they have to.
SPEAKER_02I was about to say money.
SPEAKER_04Yes, that is part of it. Money, but not in the way that you're thinking, probably. Okay. So servants of evil are usually strong or well connected. Governments tend to take a wider view on their citizenry and they will put up with evil faith because hostility won't get rid of them. And they can be useful. The example they provide is basically that the Church of Malar in Kormir is permitted to breed monsters or hunt specific beasts. The very act of the Mallarites being in Kormir tends to provide obstacles for raiders and people interested in smuggling or poaching, livestock rustling, things like that.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Okay. I mean, yeah, that's fair.
SPEAKER_04However, in Cormir, the Mallarite priests will breed monsters for temple butchery and rituals, but they will also sell them as. Trophy heads and breast tables for the wealthy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So I do yeah, that makes sense.
SPEAKER_04This provides a major source of temple revenue, which I'm pretty sure the temples get taxed in Forgotten Realms. Could be wrong.
SPEAKER_02So we should adopt that. Now there's an idea. Yeah. I do feel like the specifically the the the breeding monsters thing, I think is a little bit we're getting a little too close to Jurassic Park.
SPEAKER_04Uh it is a little Jurassic Park, yes. Uh it gets even slightly more Jurassic Park y, but we'll pull it back.
SPEAKER_02Oh god. So they're making chimeras and shit in there.
SPEAKER_04They might. I don't know. The Mallarites breed monsters for temple guardians, and often we'll deploy them to areas that may not be patrolled by guards. Right. And like, but they are confined to specific areas, nonetheless. Mallarite monsters are popular among nobles to hunt. They're tracked and released by Mallarites in specific locations and reported ahead of time for nobles to track down and slay.
SPEAKER_02They're very organized about this.
SPEAKER_04They are. They agree. Is apparently incredibly organized about how they tolerate their evil.
SPEAKER_02Well, specifically, also these like Mallorite worshippers, I feel like are also being very they are super organized. Yeah, like they're like, here's this monster, here's this monster pedigree, while they're the god they worship is just in the corner, just like just like panting and blood dripping from his disgusting mom. And they're like, look at this guy. They're like, look at this pedigree. Also, look at our god. We love him so much. Yeah, he's so cool.
SPEAKER_04One reason why the Mallarites actually will be so put together and everything is because Cormir offers no holy immunity. Because in the past, opposing faiths will happily seek out and deal with bad faiths, that literal bad faith actors, if they not done by the state. So Cormir sort of took up a role of no, we're actually going to take care of these things, don't worry. So there's no holy immunity, you get punished if you commit a crime or allow for something terrible to happen. So, like, oops, the monster got out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04No, no, you're you're responsible for the monster, you're in trouble.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. No holy immunity.
SPEAKER_04No holy immunity. The loftiest ranks can sometimes get away with shit, but not always. As a result, priests tend to work with a government through means of subtle influence or just agreeing with whatever they set forth as bounds and just trying to work within those bounds.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_04Obviously, you're gonna have someone pushing the envelope a bit. And the ultimate goal is to become the government locally.
SPEAKER_02Right, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Which in is hey, you know what? That's good life lesson in general. Just become the government.
SPEAKER_01Just become the government. Yeah. Yeah, easy.
SPEAKER_02Just can't beat them, then um infiltrate them and you know reform.
SPEAKER_04Well, I meant was run for local government roles, but okay.
SPEAKER_02Oh, see, no, I I meant just like kill them.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, let's not do that. Yeah, no.
SPEAKER_04Well, no, no, no. I'm saying that is illegal. That's the that that's the Mallarite way.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's the that's the perspective of like the worshippers of the gods of fury. I'm not telling you to do that. Don't do that. So don't don't breed monsters in your, you know, and sell them to people to stuff and mount on their walls.
SPEAKER_04Part of the reason is also that no evil church can expect to incite people against the crown or practice rituals that scare or harm people or defy the authorities or anything like that, and continue to be tolerated in bigger cities where there might be, I don't know, a band of adventurers ready to beat the shit out of you.
SPEAKER_03Right, yeah.
SPEAKER_04The heavy stuff goes on behind firmly closed temple doors, and much secrecy and excitement is thereby attached to it. That makes it exciting. That makes you might want to join a cult.
SPEAKER_02Wait, are we are we still are we still talking about DD or I mean Hey Ed, this might be a little too close to home. Yeah, this is this is a little too this is a little too we're getting a little too real.
SPEAKER_04Uh add that to my hey ed segments.
SPEAKER_03Right?
SPEAKER_04In public, the clergy of evil deities are models of good behavior. And although average citizens fear and avoid said clergy, they will almost always not attack or deride them. Almost always. Because in part they fear them. Yeah. Respect them sometimes. Everyone in the realms believes in all the gods and so understands and accepts the purpose and major aims of every faith. That doesn't mean everyone necessarily agrees with or supports every religion, but they tolerate and understand the place in society each faith occupies.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I do feel like a a big part of it is uh maybe not a huge part of it, but at least in part of it is that there is like undeniable proof in the DD universe that like these gods exist.
SPEAKER_03They literally walked their levels.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they literally periodically show up physically and do stuff. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, there's no like, oh, this thing happening is a sign that da-da-da-da-da. You know, and obviously no disrespect to anybody's, you know, anybody's um, you know, religious beliefs, but like it's a very different thing to then have this this god just pop out in front of you and be like, hey. Yeah. You know what I mean? That's a very different experience. So I think it's it's something that you know people I think are in the DD universe would be very aware of the fact that like they kind of have to reckon with the fact that these other gods and their followers exist. Yeah. So it's not just like a oh, if we kill or ostracize or whatever these people, then we can kind of stamp out this belief and therefore the the influence and power that it has over the world. Because it's like, no, because if you do that, their god might just come down and kill you. Yeah, like you know, so it's it's sort of you kind of have to you kind of have to learn to live with it a little bit. Well, well put, yeah. Yeah, I mean you know, when their god is like uh, you know, hey, better not get on a boat, you know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. True.
SPEAKER_02Or go near water, yeah, or go near water, or go like further north than like whichever, whichever one of the tropics is like yeah. I think the Tropic of Cancer is the one that you know what I mean. Yeah, like don't go north of there, so stay inside when it's thunderstorming. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I mentioned earlier that I have some opinions and that Sylvanas has some opinions on the gods of fury.

SPEAKER_02Let's go back to Sylvanas and Malar's. What I can only imagine is a very unprofessional working relationship.
SPEAKER_04To put it lightly, Sylvanas has had a back and forth with the gods of fury, depending on the addition and even the supplement. He is a true neutral deity, so I have opinions on what I think should be the overarching theme. But let's talk about the actual canon. Sylvanus is the most powerful of the wild nature gods in all the realms, of equal power to Chantea, who is like the oldest nature deity. And Chantea represents a more ordered nature, whereas Sylvanas represents true wild nature.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_04The two are on good terms, as are most of the good and neutral nature deities. Naities, if you will. Umus takes pride in his true neutrality. That is a point that I think is important to state. Sylvanus takes pride in his true neutrality.
SPEAKER_01Right. Okay, yes. Yes.
SPEAKER_04In some of the editions, I will say it does do a really good job of keeping that in mind. So in this one, the Church of Sylvanas is spread everywhere across Faroon. Most outsiders view the Church of Tontea as patron of agriculture, as being favorably inclined towards the expansion of civilization. Well, the Church of Sylvanas is the implacable foe of those who would settle new lands. Neither impression is correct, yet the Church of the Oak Father is often perceived as a little different from those faiths that venerate the deities of fury.
SPEAKER_01The Oak Father.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Let me read this. Nature and its perfect balance is the dogma of Sylvanus, who measures out both flood and drought, fire and ice, life and death in the wilderness of the north. His priests tend to see the total situation to view the macrocosm. Their view is not confined to one person or one nation's idea of what is best. The loss of a farming community to goblin raids is a terrible tragedy, but it creates new lands to be reconquered for the tests of heroes and heroines. I am firmly of the belief that Sylvanas needs to allow both the good nature deities and the evil nature deities to both do their own thing and also be pulled reined in. Yeah. Because he's true neutral.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, yeah, that would make sense.
SPEAKER_02Because it's it's the kind of thing about like forest fires, you know? Like it's like, like it's like, yeah, it's it's it is a terrible thing in a sense because it's like, yeah, it's a lot of destruction, it's a lot of death, but then also like, you know, kind of on a on an ecological level, it needs to happen sometimes. You know what I mean? So you can't just like preventing it is not always necessarily the best. Now that's in the the you know, put out your campfires and shit, you know. Like yeah, like listen to listen listen to Smoky the Bear. But you know, that just in that in that metaphor, you know, putting a controlled, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh okay, so I don't know if any of our like European listeners or any other like continents or whatever, but in the United States, indigenous communities used to take part in controlled forest fires to like clear old growth.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, before yeah.
SPEAKER_04Before colonization.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, before eventually, like, you know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh you know, before eventually all the all the white people that lived here were like, hey guys, what if we did this? Yeah, stop doing this is a great idea. Yeah. You know, and then it was like, well, no, people have been doing that for a long time, but okay.
SPEAKER_04And it has actually gotten to the point where that is probably part of the reason why we have had so many uncontrolled forest fires in recent decades.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And we are starting to turn the tide back. We're starting to be like, okay, we probably need to re-take up those ancient traditions. All that to say, forest fires, while they are terrible, are actually really important to the longevity of the forest.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, in cases. Obviously, there's there's a lot to be said about but like how they start. But but you know, that's kind of just the the the the metaphor, like a metaphor for the kind of the vibe I'm getting, is not just like, you know, Sylvanas is not necessarily just like uh it's all let's all sit in a circle, you know, in in the forest.
SPEAKER_04And you know one thing I I like to think of is Sylvanas is not just the sheep that needs protecting, he's also the wolf that needs to eat.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_04In a lot of these early supplements, he is like closer to how I would imagine a true neutral being acting. He's fine with everything as long as it all ends up in balance. But then later in Faiths and Avatars, it's mentioned that Sylvanas hates Talos and Talona, who his priests refer to as the unbalanced. Turnaround?
SPEAKER_01The turnaround, yeah.
SPEAKER_04It actually ends up going through a pretty long period in which in the middle there where Sylvanas just fucking hates the gods of fury. Sylvanus is bitterly opposed to the activities of Malar and his church as the beast lord is consumed with bloodlust and his followers would hunt every creature in existence to extinction if given leave. But if you take that to his logical extreme, would not Chantia starve every beast through protecting every beast?
SPEAKER_02I mean, yeah, or like, you know, if you, you know, it's not like you can just take every available acre for like farmland, you know? Because then that would, you know. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_04I uh appreciate the like idea that yeah, Millar is consumed with bloodlust. If left up to his own devices for all of eternity, Millar would eat the world.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04However, I like the viewpoint of okay, so he lets them both do their own thing and then reins them back in and lets them do their own thing, reins them back in.
SPEAKER_02And then brings them back when they go too far.
SPEAKER_04Sort of how wolves and deer keep each other in check in nature.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04The Oak Father hates both Talus and Telona for both care nothing for the natural order and seek only to indulge in their most destructive impulses.
SPEAKER_02This is true. Which is true, yeah. But yeah. I like I, you know, I almost, I almost which this is just a funny, I don't think this is necessarily true. But like it does amuse me the idea of imagining that his his quarrel with like Malar, for example, is somewhat ideological. Or not ideological, but like, yeah, like you said, this guy would eat the whole world. Yeah. But also, like, I kind of like to imagine that maybe his beef with like the other the other gods is like personal. Yeah. Like it's not ideological. He's like, I just fucking hate this guy. I just hate these people. They're all palos for sure. It's like they're just so rude, you know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So Sylvanas has an interesting association with the four in fourth edition, but first let's discuss some of the gods of fury shared places. This is leading up to some of the fourth edition stuff, I promise.
SPEAKER_02So uh I like how you say that. Like you're you're like, you're like, don't worry, guys, we're getting to fourth edition.
SPEAKER_04Because I keep teasing how terrible it is.
SPEAKER_02When it when it's us, and we're like, okay.
SPEAKER_04I would prefer if fourth edition didn't. But no. There is one known temple dedicated to all four. One. It's called the Towers of Fury in Kalumpart Kalamshan.
SPEAKER_02Oh, there's four. Okay, yeah, that makes sense.
SPEAKER_04The Towers of Fury consisted of four towers, each five stories tall. The complex was surrounded by the wall that shared sides with the neighborhood or Droodak's walls. So interestingly, the Druodak and its walls added a bit of flavor to the temple. See, Droodaks were basically built upwards with the upper class residents' doors opening up directly onto the walls, which were used as walkways for the upper class residents so they didn't have to walk on the dirt.
SPEAKER_02Wow. I see. Wow.
SPEAKER_04So it does add some um interesting flavor that the upper class residents can just walk directly into like they're they walk literally above them into the towers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Interesting.
SPEAKER_04After attempting to appease the gods of fury for centuries and more temples all being destroyed in godly fits of rage, Silpasha Jinnispool or Genuspool, it's spelled like like a jenny.
SPEAKER_01Like a gen, yeah, yeah, DJ, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Had this temple constructed in the year of the worm, 1356. Good year. Good year. While it's a tenant priests bridled over having to share holy ground with other faiths, the alliances among the gods of fury kept this temple complex standing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So you know they keep referencing like connections and like alliances among like the the clergy and like the gods themselves. And I'm like, I just have difficulty imagining that. I'm so sorry.
SPEAKER_04Because they're no, they're not giving concrete, they they just refer to it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, especially when it I feel like it said like literally earlier, like textually, that they don't even really like I they didn't specifically say they don't like each other, but I feel like it made reference to the fact that they don't work together very well.
SPEAKER_04We will mention they several of them do not like each other, and none of them like Malar.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, none of them like Malar.
SPEAKER_04Malar might be the only one that hates Oral, at least for now.

SPEAKER_04After the previous two editions had each of the four deities with their own divine realm in a different plane, not anymore in third edition. In third edition, Fury's Heart was created as its own fiendish plane in the world tree cosmology. This is the version of the planes that is a certified mess, in my humble opinion, uh, with honestly too many discrete planes. It's interesting that they saw fit to give the group their own plane, though, which makes me think that maybe wizards had bigger plans for the gods of Fury that just didn't quite pan out. Um Furious Heart has a certain similarity to the Barons of Doom and Despair, which is another third edition plane. That's a good name. It is. Both planes are desolate landscapes with little life and no redeeming qualities. But while the Barons is still lifeless and desolate, Furious Heart is a turmoil of storms, helling winds, and crashing waves, biting blizzards and wild beasts. The Barons refuses to support life, but Fury's Heart actively seeks to crush it. That being said, obviously creatures live there, and not just the four. There are like monsters and stuff that like prowl. Monsters, elementals, etc.
SPEAKER_01Actually live in this hellish dumb.
SPEAKER_04Um within Fury's Heart are four distinct realms, one for each deity. Like several other planes, Fury's Heart is an enormous expanse of terrain. Violent weather is the norm throughout the plane. The wind force is rarely below severe, 31 miles per hour or more, and storms are nearly constant. I take issue with saying that 31 miles per hour is severe.
SPEAKER_02That's a yeah, that's a nice spring breeze.
SPEAKER_04Uh hold on. Right? Like not quite, but not quite, but that look, I actually put laughs in Oklahoman. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because that's that's nothing.
SPEAKER_04What is the wind speed today? The app updated and it's weird. Okay, so today it's actually pretty slow, about 10 miles per hour. That's pretty like if I have that, I'm like, I don't care.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I Googled it. And according to the Beaufort Wind Force Scale for tree and forest work, um, that is the top end of a strong breeze. That is that is okay, you know, because obviously it's not like 31 miles per hour, it's not necessarily like intuitive, yeah, you know, the the like sort of not activity qualifier, but you know, thing given is that umbrellas become difficult to use. Yeah. In that at that window.
SPEAKER_04So like that's not that bad. I I've done I've done rent fairs in 50 mile per hour, gale force winds.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like it like it's it's it's really nothing.
SPEAKER_02Like maybe at the at the bottom, maybe that's not where you want the like lowest of your of your winds. It's yeah, it's high.
SPEAKER_04I'm not saying it's not high. It's a little windy, but that's not severe. It's not severe.
SPEAKER_02So so what so what they're saying is that Fury's heart is Oklahoma. Oh no. Because it's got fucked up weather, it's it's windy all the time, it's got fucked up animals. Yeah, it's Oklahoma.
SPEAKER_04Furious Heart is Oklahoma. So Oral's domain is across from the land of the hunt. It is Winter's Hall. Uh, the land grows colder and colder until all terrain dissolves into an ever-present covering of ice. The Frost Maiden's domain, there is no colder place in all the plains. Oral's Palace is formed from the shaped wind walls that are bitterly cold, and her throne is made of frozen blue fire.
SPEAKER_02Whoa, that's so cool. That is so cool. That's so sick. That's so sick. Then Malar.
SPEAKER_04Malar's realm is the land of the hunt, across from Winter's Hall, and it stretches for uncounted miles from the shore of the Blood Sea. A great open plain stocked with abundant wildlife, including souls stolen from the Hefug Plain and transformed into innocuous animal forms as prey for hunters. The land of the hunt is the only region in Fury's Heart where the weather is occasionally hospitable. Yeah, well, so he chose the weather to however he wants to hunt at any given point. So he will sometimes hunt in a hurricane.
SPEAKER_02But sometimes it's just not practical.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Sometimes he wants to try something new. The Beast Lord roams this realm with his petitioners, all of whom take the forms of large carnivorous animals and savor the thrill of the hunt. When unwelcome visitors enter the plain, Malar and his companions gleefully turn their attention away and begin to stalk the intruders. Yes, he is a freak. Um Talus. Towards one edge of the land of the hunt, the plains begin to rise into steep, rocky hills, a sign that Malar's realm has ended and Talos's has begun. Atop one of the hills in the realm stands the Stormlord's Palace, aptly named the Towers of Ruin. The towers that have comprised the structure are now little more than rocks precariously stacked together. So often have they been battered by lightning strikes and hor hurricane force winds. I don't I would love a crumbling structure, but there are later renditions in Talos' episode of the Towers of Ruin that I think are better.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04One of them actually mentions a helix shape for the towers, which I really like.
SPEAKER_02Ooh, that's cool. I like that a lot.
SPEAKER_04At the border of Talos' realm, the winds are always severe, blowing out from the center of the realm towards the edges. Closer to the center.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, how how severe? What's the mile per hour?
SPEAKER_04Um hurricane levels. Okay, that's fair.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay. Yeah, I guess they did they just say hurricane. Yeah, I just give it a number. I just I just want a number.
SPEAKER_04I also just want a number.
SPEAKER_02Like we're over here, like, oh, that's just like Tuesday.
SPEAKER_04That's Tuesday. Yeah. Admittedly, probably not the best for three Oklahomans to comment on because yeah, we are Tornado's George over here.
SPEAKER_02We are outliers, and it should not have been counted. Yes.
SPEAKER_04The wind force gradually increases until it reaches hurricane levels around the towers of ruin. Periodically, and at Taliso's command, the wind is supplemented by stinging rain and carefully directed bolts of lightning, ensuring that no unwelcome visit or sorry, few unwelcome visitors arrive.
SPEAKER_01Cool.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Not not all, just few.

SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's great. Yeah. Uh Umberly's realm. The Blood Sea is an expanse of water, salt water specifically, constantly beaten by storms, gale force winds, sweeping over foam-capped waves, torrential rain pours from blackened sky, and lightning demolishing anything that breaks the surface of the water. Queen of Depth swims through the reddish water of her realm, accompanied by native creatures such as fiendish squids and were sharks. I didn't write that down, but I do recall there being ware sharks.
SPEAKER_02Um I didn't want to mention that were sharks existed because I I knew it was gonna be like a thing. Why didn't why didn't you talk about the were sharks?
SPEAKER_04I will be talking about the were sharks, don't worry. Not as in-depth as like they might require, but I will be talking about ware sharks in Emberle's episodes.
SPEAKER_02They do exist, and it it they are pretty cool. They are.
SPEAKER_04Let's get to fourth edition. Everyone's favorite part. Yay! Um the section is titled The Deep Wilds or Sylvanus Returns. Um The Deep Wilds is a sort of divine Feywilds and is a plain devoted to all nature deities, most of them at least. An otherworldly dominion of fantastic terrain dominated by untamed wilderness and populated by all manner of pharaoh, obese and fairy folk. Every type of natural environment that exists on Toro is exemplified. Desert, savannah, meadow, marsh, forest, tundra, whatever. It's all there. Along the southern and eastern reaches of the deep wild stretches vast woodlands. The canopy of leaves overhead grows so densely that it seems all light must be blotted out in the deep forests where the vegetation grows thick and wildlife is abundant. The greatest of all trees flourishes here. At the heart of the Great Wood in Glen called Summer Oak, Almighty Sylvanus makes its home. So this is the realm of Sylvanus in fourth edition. It's also the new home of Oral, Malar, and Umberly, alongside their fellow nature deities. Not to Talos, though.
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh. Why? Yeah, why? Because he sucks. He sucks and nobody wants him there. And they all unanimously agreed to stop inviting him to the clubhouse.
SPEAKER_04Kind of. So this is a quote from Realms Lore, Hall of the Frost Maiden, and Dragon Magazine number 367. RL is one of the three Furies, along with Malar and Umberly. The Furies owe their allegiance to Sylvanus following the events of the Stormstar Requiem, where Talos was revealed to be the orc god Grumsh and banished from Furious Heart. What?
SPEAKER_02Okay, alright. Yeah. You did mention that orcs were gonna come back. Well, okay. Alright. What? Fine, whatever.
SPEAKER_04According to that article, Talos was actually just an aspect of Grumsh, and this was revealed by Slavonis. This is literally, literally the first and only mention of these events.
SPEAKER_01Because it's stupid. That doesn't make any sense.
SPEAKER_04Any sense. I guess they're both one-eyed.
SPEAKER_02Cool. That's it. That's definitely.
SPEAKER_04I mean, there's some, I guess, okay overlap in either portfolios or domains, whatever. It's not interesting enough for me. Talos is absent from fourth edition. Fourth edition did remove a lot of the older gods, but Stormstar Requiem is literally only ever mentioned here, and everything went back to normal in fifth edition. And there are some mentions in fourth edition of Talos. It's just that he is not like he never gets a stat block or a description.
SPEAKER_01Because he was just grunts.
SPEAKER_04Well, only according to this. Um he just wasn't there.
SPEAKER_01I just okay.
SPEAKER_04I did find an interesting commentary on this um from the Candle Keep forum. I usually don't include like I will go through like different forums and stuff just to find like people talking, especially around the time that things were released. I don't usually include this as much as I I use it to help direct research. Right. Um but I wanted to include some of these things, especially some of the stuff from noted fourth edition lovers, which I didn't even know was a thing that existed.
SPEAKER_01It shouldn't. Those four people.
SPEAKER_04At some point in the conflict, Talos was revealed to be Grump. Although, as is the case with a lot of fourth edition's DFX syncretisms, the distinction between the two seems to be clear once again as of the Sword Coast Adventures Guide. Yeah. After all that ended, Grump slash Talos was rejected from the gods of Fury, now the Three Furies, and the group pledge allegiance to Sylvanus, perhaps due to the Oak Father's rescue of Oral from the influence of a sinister artifact joining him in the realm of the deep wilds. Don't know what sinister I mean, I can guess based on some of these things what the sinister artifact is, but I couldn't find what it was referencing.
SPEAKER_02Also, like, I mean, I guess it if if the events transpired as they are purported to have, I guess it would make sense that if they were gonna ally themselves with any nature god, it would be Sylvanas. Right.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Even though I'm sure a fourth edition, I would not be surprised if fourth edition did weird stuff with Sylvanas' character.
SPEAKER_04I didn't read that much into it, honestly.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you did weird stuff for like everything, so that that I'm not this isn't even the half of it. Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it goes like maybe, and maybe there'll be more about this the Grump thing later. I don't know if there will be. There won't. Okay, good. That to me just feels like, and again, I had I didn't read it. I don't know much I don't know grump. I don't know grumps personally.

SPEAKER_02Um I don't know grump. We're not on, we're not, we're not friends like that. But like to me, it just seems like the sort of thing where I don't exactly know how to explain this. Like, if you know a new wave of of literature comes out and the people involved are thinking that they don't want to include certain gods or certain monsters, certain elements, whatever, because at a certain point it does get to like there's a lot. Oh, yeah, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_04And I don't dispute that, and I will actually talk about that in a minute.
SPEAKER_02So I think that if someone wants to not do that, I think it's fine. But to me, this thing of like just kind of randomly without much context or much build-up being like, oh, this god was revealed to have been masquerading as this other god.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I did a quick goog, like it does look like they have some overlap, you know, because it's like they're both like chaotic, evil type gods, you know. Um, Grumsh is a Tempest Domain in 5th edition, so on and so forth. But but to me, it just seems like such a like it feels like a rug pull that you get from like like some modern a modern storytelling thing that I really hate is which obviously this isn't super modern, not like you know, 20, not like 2020s, right?
SPEAKER_04Which I think I know what you're gonna reference, and this is a very 2010s, 2020s theme.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but like the whole like, oh my god, you'll never see this plot twist coming. And it's like, well, yeah, you're not gonna see this plot twist coming because it doesn't make any fucking sense.
SPEAKER_04There was no build-up, no fortune.
SPEAKER_01There's no build-up, there's no build up, dropped, and then it's just that you'll be like, oh my god, oh my god, Talos was grumped the whole time.
SPEAKER_02That's crazy, and it feels like it's such this culture of like, oh my god, you're gonna have to see this movie as soon as it comes out. You don't want to get spoiled because this plot twist is crazy.
SPEAKER_04It's gotten to the the point where now I genuinely am like so amazed and appreciative of any sort of any media that actually does foreshadowing very well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Because I'm like, oh good, thank you.
SPEAKER_02Like it's not a bad thing to be watching a movie or something and see something and be like, hmm, I wonder. Yeah, I wonder about that. That that kind of reminds me of the XYZ. Yeah. Yeah. And then and then suddenly, like later, the reveal happens and you're like, and it recontextualizes everything that you saw earlier. Like, that's not a that's a good thing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And like the stuff I'm about to talk about, I do see more overlap and more potential, like, okay, that could have been foreshadowing, but it's still not like the best. Fourth edition really struggles at telling a story.

SPEAKER_04So from my internet surfings, it looks as if Oral used to be the Archfay Oralander, which was corrupted by some gem and became Oral as we now recognize her.

SPEAKER_04Some gem might ring a bell to anyone who has ever read up on any of the Fe Wild's lore. Yeah, they labeled Oral as the fairy court's queen of air and darkness.

SPEAKER_04Yeah, they they made Oral the Queen of Air and Darkness briefly. Yeah. Um, which again, I do see more overlap. I do. Especially like when we get into like what her um her avatars look like and things like that and some of the oral stuff. But not at not not as much as they want for sure. Who or what created the black diamond is unknown, but some whisper that the dark god of the underdark created it. Who the fuck is that? Um and his return may be dependent on the queen's despoilings.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_04A major design goal was calling the somewhat massive pantheon, agreed. So a number of deities died, were demoted to exarchs in service of other deities, or revealed to be aspects of other gods.
SPEAKER_02That's what, yeah, that's yeah. Yeah. It's like you can make it work, but yes.
SPEAKER_04And the main problem with that is that I did some per personal digging on some of this, and I did come to the conclusion that there were too many cooks in the kitchen in fourth edition. Um, did not have very much conversations with each other either. The right hand was like, we have too many deities, we need to start calling some of these. And the left hand was like, I have really cool ideas for deities. And so they made more.
SPEAKER_02And then and then they and then they clapped and everything exploded. Yes. And then we got fourth edition.
SPEAKER_04The only thing I really like about this is the unification of the nature deities. Even those at odds under the realm of Sylvanas, I actually do think conceptually that would is kind of cool. I think that it the only way uh it would be better is if Talos was there and not grump.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's just grump. It's fine. Don't worry about it. That's so funny.
SPEAKER_04Also, Malar is now an exarch of Sylvanas for fourth edition, just for fourth edition. Yeah. Which would be actually fucking hilarious.
SPEAKER_02You know, they both hate that so much.
SPEAKER_04Um, exarchs uh are usually ascended mortal servants of greater gods, brought up to serve as agents of their divine masters. Exarchs are incapable of forming planes of their own, they occasionally maintain smaller pocket universes, um, but they're more often simply conduits that serve to connect the mortal world with the attention of the higher deities.
SPEAKER_02Sylvanus is like. Can I demote this one? Why is he here? It's like it's like, yeah.
SPEAKER_04What I would actually love is if you had the polar opposite of Malar being an exarch to Sylvanas. So then you had the two extremes at war with each other, and it's almost like the devil and angel situation on Sylvanas' shoulder, but it's just his exarchs.
SPEAKER_02And he's not actually meaningfully influenced by either of them. He's like, he's just like, oh my god, guys. Yeah. Jesus.
SPEAKER_04We're back to normal.
SPEAKER_02Okay, good.
SPEAKER_04Um, forget all that stuff with Grunch and Malar being an exarch and everything.

SPEAKER_02I might hold on to that one a little bit because it is conceptually very funny.
SPEAKER_04There is a good bit of prose, I suppose, about the gods of fury and the average citizen's life. Almost all beings in Feyrune worship mini gods. As a rule, only zealots and clergy venerate just one deity. In other words, a farmer could mainly serve Chantea, but also pray to appease Talos to keep crop-damaging storms away, Millar to keep beasts from attacking him, or his folk in the field and send vermin elsewhere. Talona to help fight disease and blight at bay, and so on.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah, I mean.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Druids themselves usually will just venerate the forces of nature themselves, but most druids are devoted to one of the many nature deities worshipped in the multiverse. The worship of these deities is often considered a more ancient tradition than the faiths of clerics and urbanized people. In fact, in the world of Greyhawk, the druidic faith is called the old faith. Druidic circles are not usually connected to the faith of any one single nature deity. Any given circle in the Forgotten Realms, for example, might include Druids who revere Sylvanus, My Licky, Eldath, Chantea, or even the harsh gods of fury. All of these gods together are often called the first circle, which I really like. Oh, that is so. Because then it kind of does establish the gods of fury as being like a subsect of the first circle, which implies an opposite. And I really like that for things like balance.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Most druids count them all, even the violent ones, as worthy of veneration. They venerate the first circle, not just a few.
SPEAKER_01Again, makes sense because druids are about balance. So they're all worth venerating because they all offer something to the balance.
SPEAKER_04They see them all as embodiments of the natural world, which moves in cycles of creation and destruction, waxing and waning, life and death.
SPEAKER_01Right. Okay, well, there you go.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Grumbar isn't just god of the earth to a druid, he's the fertile soil and the rolling hills themselves. Malar isn't just the beast lord, but the hunger and the hunting instinct of a predatory beast. Now for some of the most recent things that the gods of fury did.
SPEAKER_02Oh boy. What what have what are okay?
SPEAKER_04In September of 2020, Ice Wendale, Rhyme of the Frost Maiden, was released.
SPEAKER_02Good year. I can't even lie and say it was a good year. Not good year. Bad year. Bad year. It was no year of the worm.
SPEAKER_04Bad year. Not certainly not year of the worm.
SPEAKER_02Not year of the worm material there.
SPEAKER_04It's actually an interesting adventure that we'll cover more in Oral's episode, but I will read the relevant portion. Oral was a line to the gods Talos, Umberly, and Malara. Together they wrought terrible destruction and inspiring fear that compelled tribute to hold their power at bay. Umberley, Queen of the Wrathful Sea, grew to despise the enduring nature of the ice and snow Orl created. Umberley seethed when Orl's bridge of cold transformed her chaotic, unpredictable tides into rigid, motionless sheets of ice. Umberly brought Talos and Malar into an alliance against Arl, who retreated to the coldest quarter of Toril to escape their fury. After a world-shaking event known as the Sundering, most of the gods withdrew from Toral, leaving the mortals to govern their own fates without the gods meddling, but the Frostmaiden could not stay away for long. Arl returned to her icy realm in the far north and after a time plunged it into frigid darkness using her magic.
SPEAKER_01Beautiful.
SPEAKER_04So literally they did nothing but um maybe do a couple of plots against various good aligned deities or cities or countries and then broke up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And we're done.

SPEAKER_04Yeah, basically. So I think that they they need to get back together. So RL needs to be brought back into the fold. I think that they need to figure out a good plan.

They need they need a personality hire. They need somebody that's going to be somebody that's a little bit more balanced. Maybe another neutral evil person, maybe even a true neutral.
SPEAKER_02Or like a chaotic neutral.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, or a chaotic neutral. Someone to help bridge that gap.
SPEAKER_02Or they need like the token, like lawful good paladin in the party who's like, why do I hang out with these people? Yes. But they don't leave for some reason.

SPEAKER_04I think that one of the things I want to do before we end the episode is I want to discuss potential gods of fury. I have two main rules. They must represent a destructive force of nature or perhaps man's nature, not just be evil.

SPEAKER_04They must not step on too many toes, which means that most water deities are out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there's already enough water deities. And we do, we do already have a water deity.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and an ice deity which encroaches on water. So if we bring another water deity in, it's not gonna go well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. No, not at all. Uh Umberly's just gonna get mad about the other water deity. It's gonna be a whole thing.
SPEAKER_04Let's discuss who I think would be some good potential gods of fury. This is this is fun. I've never done this, like this is Taylor's opinion time, but I like it. We might do more. So, Telona. She was the goddess of poison and disease in the Faveronian pantheon.
SPEAKER_02That's okay, that's compelling on its own.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Like, we don't have a pestilence being in because we got a lot of we got a lot of weather. We have a lot of weather. Maybe we need some pestilence that will actually almost sort of bring Malar in a little bit more, as not being the out offering out. Exactly.

SPEAKER_04Um also, she's not going to step on anyone's particular toes because she's got nothing to do with with like the elemental kind of dose.

SPEAKER_04Oh yeah. Come on now. So worship of the mother of all plagues waxed and waned in an unending cycle. Kind of like plagues. The mistress of disease would unleash waves of death-bringing blights, after which came mass entreaties for respite before the cycles. Great plagues went into remission, and her power slowly declined, bring feelings of vulnerability in her, which began the cycle of new. She also can get along with Talos in that she is a bit uh insecure.
SPEAKER_01Good. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So I think honestly, she is my number one vote, but let's go over some of the others. Upteo. He is the patron deity of the isolated region of Cholt.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04And is actually the creator deity of Cholt and the founder of Mesro. So this is, I think Talos could be irritated about bringing in somebody who's like the leader of a pantheon. Yeah. He would feel a little bit insecure. But also, the father of the dinosaurs.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Come on.
SPEAKER_04But that will also potentially put Millar like, hey, I'm kind of the animal guy in the group.
SPEAKER_02Okay, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_01But he doesn't have dinosaurs.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. That we know of. That we know of.

SPEAKER_04He seemed to be above the daily doings of the world and his followers. This might have been partly due to his origin as a primordial, which is really cool. And then his alleged betrayal of them, owing him his title, The Deceiver. But you might be thinking, but he's not involved enough. Well, after the time of troubles, he actually began to show interest in his followers.
SPEAKER_02Okay. You know, you had me at Dinosaurs, but I don't know. I feel like the deceiver thing, it reminds me too much of the stupid grump thing from earlier. And plus, I don't think someone with the with the title of the deceiver is like the good personality higher friendship glue person.

SPEAKER_04So Gyaragos, he's the next one on the list. He was the Ferunian demigod of war, focused more on barbaric war, the aspect of destruction and plundering, rather than the strategy or logistics. Seemingly existing only to destroy the Reaver was a whirlwind of slaughter linked to the savage bloodlust that led to the horrific carnage. Again, might make Millar a little like, eh, but he it is more like man's bloodlust and man's barbarism.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. And man is just an animal after all.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Well, don't say that to but Malar.

SPEAKER_04Now, I I think that it's interesting in that it does lean more towards Malar and might help balance the group a little bit more on his side.
SPEAKER_02And the Reaver, he's got the good, he's got the good epithet. He's got the good name.
SPEAKER_01The Reaver.
SPEAKER_02I think that he and Malar would fight over the pirates too much. Because this sounds like a pirate god right now.
SPEAKER_04This does sound like a pirate god.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So probably not Gyaragos.
SPEAKER_04So this one I have conflicted opinions on, as you can see, it's a little bit longer. Velsharoon. Velsharoon was the Faerunian demigod of Necromancy, the patron of Liches and those that explored Undeath. Explored. Explored. Arrogant and obsessed, the Archmage of Necromancy continued his experiments on the living and the dead as a god, paying no heed to the lesser lives lost in the name of his research and encouraging his disciples to do the same. So there's a reason why I specifically mentioned him. He's going to be heavily mentioned in the Talos episode. He actually has a long history with Talos. And in fact, Talos is the reason that he is a demigod. However, I'm mostly just mentioning him because you have to mention him when you mention like any potential new hire because of the Talos relationship and the fact that he is one of Talos's most successful like mortal promotions. Unfortunately, this won't work as a fifth edition because he has turned his life around. Velsharoon returned to life after the second sundering, humbled by his experience, because he was fucking killed.
SPEAKER_02I would fucking kill. Not when you're a DD god. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, maybe the being a Dimmi God helped. Valsharun's relationships changed drastically. He thought little of Merkel, considering him a do-nothing has been. He had diminished relationships with Shar, straight up just ignored Talos after that, and regarded his rivalry, his like own personal and previous rivalry with Jurgle as foolish.
SPEAKER_02Dang, he really did. He really did. Dang.
SPEAKER_04He had far less interest in evil. Though he continued to exult on death, he did so without his past arrogance and despised those who misused the undead.
SPEAKER_02Dang, this guy, this guy turned it around more than like most mortal humans on the planet Earth. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Now that being said, with this turnaround, I don't think he can be considered at, but like you could probably re-corrupt him. It would take some work. It would take some work. And really, if are you willing to put in that much effort when there's possible other better applicants? That's true.
SPEAKER_02Dude, I'm just I'm just imagining when it says that he ignored Talos. I'm just imagining, like, literally, Talos like texted him. He's like, hey, Daddy Big Dick is back in town. And and Velcher just put put his put his notification, turned his notifications off. He's like, he's like, I'm not. And then and then, you know, uh Char is over here, like, don't text him back. And he ignored her too, you know? And then just went back to went back to his um ethical necromancy. Ethical necromancy. Ethical necromancy, yes. His recycling, I guess.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So the last on the list is very interesting. Um, you'll recognize his name. It's Ayakovas. He was the one who was listed in Umberly's foes and allies. He was an ancient powerful being that we will discuss in detail in the Umberly episode. Um, suffice to say that he is a particularly special wear shark bordering on Deafic and could easily be raised up to deity status. Um it would infuriate, but would also be one of the few water-based powers that Umberly would quite begrudgingly accept. And I do like the idea of ruffling Umberly's feathers.
SPEAKER_02Interesting. I do think. I don't know. I don't know how I don't know how Malar would take it also.
SPEAKER_04Malar may not be into it, but also he does love the wares.
SPEAKER_02He does love the wares. That's true. I I do I do wonder how his sort of his his lycanthropic cohorts would would feel.
SPEAKER_04I mean, because it this guy's specifically just be a wear shark, which were sharks already have domain under Umberly.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Which again, Umberly's probably gonna be a little irritated, but it's really funny.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And I like it. It's really funny.
SPEAKER_04Um, but I'm not taking anything from Malar. Malar's like Malar already doesn't have Ware Sharks.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But it is too niche. I just like it because of what it does to Umberly.

SPEAKER_01I mean, you really yeah, you're really just like this, would just fuck with Umberly specifically, which is which is the best reason to do anything, is just that like because it would be funny.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So I don't know. My um I personally, my only doubts about Telona is I feel like her name is really bad for like the branding because it's like the letter heading is it's too close to Talos. Like it sounds like they're like twins, yeah, whose parents were like super cutesy. Yeah, they were super cutesy about it, you know. Also, I don't know, that could be something.
SPEAKER_04But also, Talos is almost always at the top because of the fact that he's the leader, so it's not going to be Talos Talone or Talona Talos, it'll be Talos oral, Marl, Talona, Umberly, which does help.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we put Umberly at the end for some reason.
SPEAKER_04Because you is the last one? Yeah, I guess I I went talos being first because of the leader and then alphabetical. Okay, yeah. We could also go in order of like bringing down order of higher order.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, higher, higher, higher date order.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. Um, but I I think of what we've talked about, Telona is the best. I do think Telona. I I would agree.
SPEAKER_02Talona is the best. I think the plague and disease stuff rounds it out really well because I feel like our team so far has been very weather heavy, you know.
SPEAKER_04Um we don't step on Millar's toes, but also get to bring him in more.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I I really want I really want us to be able to move in a more diverse uh I don't know why. I don't know why.
